Berhampur, July 9 (LocalWire): The newly-introduced SHE team in Gajapati district has yielded results with the arrest of three persons, including two eve teasers and a woman.
A 48-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh was arrested by the SHE team at Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district, who allegedly looted gold pendants from eight children on Monday.
Donna Bharati alias Saraswati of Patpatnam in Srikakulam district was caught red-handed in Gajapati district, where people had assembled during Hera Panchami.
After searching her police found as many as eight gold pendants weighing around 12 grams from her bag, said SP (Gajapati), Sarah Sharma today.
Two razors were also found from her bag, she said. Police suspect, she came from Srikakulam to Paralakhemundi only to steal and targeted crowded places and minor children wearing gold pendants.
In most cases, parents did not lodge a complaint suspecting the locket might have got lost.
‘Now, at least four people have approached the police claiming the gold pendants had lost,’ she said.
‘We are happy the SHE Team (Safety, Health and Environment) has performed its duty,’ said the SP.
Sharma said since its launch they arrested three persons, including the woman.
The SHE Team had also apprehended 22 people who were allegedly teasing girls in different areas of the town.
‘We let them go after cautioning them,’ SP added.
The accused who have been arrested committed the crime a second time, she said.
She said the SHE Team had also received a number of calls from different districts.
We have intimated to the concerned police stations regarding their complaints, SP added.
