Bhubaneswar, Dec 15 (LocalWire) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday said it will probe financial transactions and foreign fund sources of non-governmental organization Good News India (GNI), a few days after one of its shelters was shut down post sexual harassment allegations by its inmates.
“GNI runs 22 shelter homes. We will investigate the legitimacy of its foreign and national fundings,” said a senior ED official.
Earlier, Union women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi had ordered a probe into the alleged sexual harassment to inmates of Dream Centre Shelter Home (DCSH) at Balitikiri village in Dhenkanal district.
The incident came to fore after girls staying at DCSH alleged that the centre’s in-charge Simanchal Naik and managing director Fayaz Rehman used to sexually harass them.
Based on their complaint, the police sealed the shelter, run by GNI and arrested Naik and Fayaz Rehman.
