Balangir, Dec 18 (LocalWire) Work in several government offices in Balangir were affected on Wednesday as the residents began a two-day shutdown demanding the establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in the region, officials said.
The government offices, banks and insurance offices have remained closed.
However, vehicular traffic, business establishments and educational institutions were not affected as they were kept out of the purview of the shutdown, a protest leader said.
Seeking fulfilment of their three-point longstanding charter of demands, the slogan shouting members of Balangir Action Committee with the support of the District Bar association had resorted to picketing in front of different government establishments.
“Both the centre and state government should take immediate steps. Otherwise, we will intensify our movement in the coming days”, the protest leaders said.
