Berhampur, Sept 4 (LocalWire): As the new Motor Vehicle Act came into effect with heavy penalty for offenders from 1 September, several media persons in Silk City took out a motorcycle rally to create awareness on the provisions of the Act.
They took out the rally in major areas of the city wearing helmets.
Don’t drive without helmet, do not allow juveniles to ride a bike, avoid rash driving and obey traffic rules to save lives were some of the slogans raised during the rally.
SP (Berhampur) Pinak Mishra flagged off the rally in the presence of Berhampur Municipal Corporation commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore, sub Collector, Berhampur, Shinde Dattaraya Bhausaheb and others. ‘It’s a good initiative taken by the city journalists,’ said Rathore.
The awareness rally assumed significance as the BeMC already started the integrated traffic management system in the city by installing traffic lights along with CCTV cameras.
The scribes urged the district administration and BeMC authorities to repair the roads in the city and to take action against cattle menace in the roads.
