Berhampur, October 23 (Local Wire) The free Wi-Fi services in Silk City will soon become reality as the tender process for installation of gadgets to provide such services has been finalized.
Bhubaneswar based company Wefe Technology was awarded in Rs 90-lakh to provide high-speed internet services in some areas of the city in the first phase.
“The company will complete its work in next one-and-half month duration of time,” said Chakravarti Singh Rathore, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) commissioner, on Tuesday.
In the first phase, the Wi-Fi network would be covered in the area from Biju Patnaik Park, Girija Square, Ramalingam Tank road, Arnnapurnna Market, Old Bus-stand, municipality town hall, Khallikote
The main server would be installed near Ramalingam tank road, sources said.
He said the BeMC has decided the service would be provided in free to the Internet users-but for a limited time period.
“After completion of the project, we will decide the time limits for one number to avail the free services in the public Wi-Fi services,” he said.
After the project gets executed, Berhampur would be on par with some other major towns of the country in providing free high-speed Wi-Fi services in public places.
Presently, some portions of Berhampur University and Khallikote autonomous college campuses have facilities of free Wi-Fi services.
Meanwhile, authorities of MKCG Medical College here conducted a survey to make the college as Wi-Fi enabled.
