Bhubaneswar, December 24 (LocalWire): The state government went on an overdrive to project its achievements before the recently-concluded 2019 Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
According to an official reply on an RTI query, the government has revealed that it’s spent on advertisements in newspapers and electronic media went up by a whopping 441 per cent, up from Rs 41.75 crore in 2017-18 to Rs 225.89 crore in 2018-19.
With the election coming to an end, the government opted to drastically cut down the advertisement budget to Rs 36 crore for the current financial year 2019-20.
Of the allocated budget, the government has spent around Rs 24 crore towards newspaper and TV advertisements till October 31 last.
The RTI also revealed that a particular print media house was given the lion’s share of Rs 21 crore of the government advertisements released till October 31 last.
