Berhampur, August 25 (LocalWire): Six teenage girls fell into the river Rushikulya near Kanjiamma village under Hinjili police station limits in Ganjam district while fetching water today. While five of them were rescued by the villagers and fire personnel, one of them is missing.
Fire service personnel, police and the local residents have launched a massive
search operation for Sili Behera (17), daughter of Mulia Behera of Kanjiamma village.
‘The current in the river is very fast in the gorge area, which is causing difficulty in the search operation,’ said the fire station officer of Hinjili, Laba Nayak.
Two of the rescued girls were admitted to the hospital in Hinjili.
They have been discharged after treatment, police said.
Several girls from the village had gone to the river to fetch water for the daily ritual of the month-long Khudurukuni festival. Six of them went in the middle of the river and fell into the gorge and was drowning when local people rescued them.
