Paradip, Dec 10 (LocalWire): Additional Sessions Judge, Kujang, Pranab Kumar Routray today sentenced six accused to life imprisonment for murdering a liquor trader in Kujang Bazar.
The accused had shot dead liquor trader Prasant Narayan Das for refusing liquor in 2014.
The six miscreants had asked Das to give liquor free of cost and also asked for money. When Das refused, an altercation ensued. Locals stepped in and asked the accused to leave.
Das was later attacked in the local bazaar where the accused fired three rounds at him and fled. Locals rushed him to the hospital and shifted him to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack in a critical condition where doctors declared him brought dead.
Later, the victim’s brother Bikram Narayan Das lodged an FIR in Kujang police station against Ajit Das, Mantu Patra, Subhransu Sekhar Sukla, Jimuta Das of Sandhpur of Kujang police limit and Ranjit Rout and Rajesh Rout of Gatiroutpatana under Chauliaganj police limit of Cuttack district. Police registered a case, arrested them and later forwarded them to court.
Adjudicating the case, ADJ, Kujang Routray sentenced them to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 20, 000 on each of them. In case of failure to pay the fine, they will have to undergo imprisonment of one extra year.
