Bhubaneswar, Nov 14 (LocalWire): A 19-year-old girl from a slum cluster has made it to the Nairobi Summit on International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) to represent the city at the global event.
Deepanjali Swain (19) was nominated to represent in ICPD by the Socially Smart Project of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and United Nations Population Fund in recognition of her leadership qualities.
She had displayed her leadership capabilities under ‘Hamara Bachpan’ programme for empowering the slum children.
‘I am happy that with such a challenging economic condition also, I could achieve this feat.
I am grateful to the authorities of BSCL and also HBT who helped me get the exposure,’ said a visibly-excited Deepanjali.
Chief Executive Officer BSCL and Commissioner BMC Prem Chandra Chaudhary, who is also taking part in the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25 as a delegate, said, ‘the Socially Smart Project under the Smart City Proposal is to successfully implement social change and equity so that slum dwellers have a better life and opportunities with safer and secured environment for women and girls.
Deepanjali’s participation in ICPD25 will take this message further.’
