Berhampur, March 3 (LocalWire): The state government on Sunday launched a project to set up ‘smart parks’ and model crematoriums in all urban local bodies across the state.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched Unnati, an initiative to bring about all-round development of municipalities by synergizing resources from different schemes, agencies and providing critical gap-funding schemes.
The CM was here for the inauguration of the Janibili mega drinking water supply project for the city.
The government will set up around 200 ‘smart parks’ in the 114 municipalities across the state within modern facilities like pathways, open gyms, yoga and meditation corners, children’s play area, LED lights, comfortable seats, drinking water and separate toilet complexes for men and women, urban development minister Niranjan Pujari, said.
Similarly, 200 model crematoriums will also be set up with changing rooms, bathing and toilet complex and drinking water taps. Devotional music will also be played and the existing crematoriums will be restored under the scheme.
‘Each new initiative will cost around Rs 200 crore and in the next six months, each municipality will have at least one Smart Park and a model crematorium,’ said urban development secretary G Mathivathanan.
