Jagatsinghpur, May 26 (LocalWire): Cyclone Fani relief materials are yet to reach some residents in Jagatsinghpur district, raising tension and anger in the areas.
Essential items like kerosene and rice are yet to reach some affected people, while those who have received them are getting in less quantity than what was originally promised, alleged a villager.
Locals allege large irregularities in the supply of relief materials at some places.
They say PDS dealers have lied to people about the actual quantity of items they received and later sold them in black market.
The unaccounted rice, wheat and kerosene were sold to unscrupulous traders in high prices, said a local.
According to a Badagaon resident, the local PDS dealer has cheated at least 2,000 people by siphoning off 100 gm of rice and wheat and 50 ml of kerosene from every kg from the consumers.
Priyatama Biswal, who hails from Minjipada village, alleged that the local PDS dealer gave only 8 kg of rice instead of 10. Another consumer alleged that he received 900 ml of kerosene instead of a liter.
On Sunday, hundreds of people have gheored a PDS dealer in Badrodanga village to demand proper supply of essential items.
The crowd dispersed only after the police arrived at the spot.
They also demanded stern action against errant PDS dealers who manipulate the weighing machines.
The protestors called off the stir after supply inspector Bijay Singh promised action against the dealers and assured smooth distribution of PDS commodities.
