Berhampur, May 2 (LocalWire): Fearing the worst in view of cyclone Fani that is expected to hit Odisha by Friday, the Southern Electricity Supply Company Of Odisha Limited (SOUTHCO) is fully geared up deal with any eventuality, an official said.
‘We have stocked adequate materials like transformer, electric poles, cables and other things to meet the challenges,” said P K Choudhury, nodal officer, Southco.
He said in an emergency meeting of the senior staff members of the company, an elaborate strategy was chalked out to deal with any situation that may arise during or after the cyclone.
He said Southco that has over 2000 employees, would hire additional manpower of around 1500 to put them on the emergency duty. .
“As the power sector is likely to be the worst affected, the power distribution company is geared up to meet any eventuality,” he emphasized. .
Under the influence of Fani, heavy rain along with the high speed wind of over 150-km would hit Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts.
Power sector might be the worst affected, the official, said, adding that the company has enough experience to deal with situations like this.
“The power infrastructure was severely affected due to the cyclone Phailin in 2013, Huduhudu in 2014 and Titli last year.
We hope this time, we will met the challenge and try to restore power supply quickly in the affected areas”, said Choudhury.
