Bhubaneswar, Dec 7 (LocalWire) With industrial houses allegedly polluting the rivers and water bodies in Odisha, the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) has issued a statutory warning to units to refrain from perpetrating water pollution.
The apex pollution control panel of the state in a circular issued recently has warned the industrial houses of legal action for acts of defying the pollution control rules and laws.
Directions have been issued to all the major and small industries not to discharge untreated effluent and sewage to water bodies, official sources said.
As per National Green Tribunal directives, ‘no untreated sewage and industrial effluents could be discharged into any water body’.
Any deviation will invite penal action under section 18 (1) (b) of Water (prevention and control of pollution) Act, 1974, they said.
It is pertinent to note here that as many as 19 rivers in the State are bearing the brunt of water pollution as per the scientific findings by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
