Bhubaneswar, Sept 16 (LocalWire): Cracking the whip on former lawmakers overstaying at the government quarters in the city, Odisha Assembly Speaker today asked them to vacate them immediately.
Over two dozen former MLAs are currently overstaying at the quarters allotted to them.
They have been asked to vacate the premises or face disconnection of electricity and water in the houses, Speaker S N Patro told reporters here today.
Former MLAs continue to occupy the quarters despite the ‘vacate-the-quarters’ notices served to them by the general administration of the state government and therefore, the government had to take this drastic step, he said.
More than 20 newly-elected MLAs are yet to be provided with accommodation as former MLAs continue to occupy the quarters, he added.
Those MLAs who are waiting for their quarter allotments have been provided temporary accommodation in the MLA guest houses and other government accommodation.
As per the General Administration department guideline, a former MLA has to vacate the quarter within one month of dissolution of the previous Assembly, said GA department officials.
