Berhampur, Dec 7 (LocalWire) In a bid to speed up trial of cases relating to “honour killing” and violence against couples, the Odisha government has specified two courts, including second additional district and sessions judge, Berhampur, as special courts for such cases.
While additional district and session’s court, Berhampur will deal with honour killing cases, the sub divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM), Nabarangapur has been assigned to deal with cases of honour killing as well as violence against couples.
A notification in this regard has already been issued by the home department, said reports.
These special courts are notified under section 3 of the Orissa Special Court Act-2006 ( chapter-III) and with the concurrence of the chief justice of high court of Orissa, Cuttack, the notification said.
It may be noted that the state government had earlier announced fast track courts would try honour killing cases.
