Bhubaneswar, May 1 (LocalWire)A special train will carry around 1200 migrants from Ernakulum in Tamil Nadu to Bhubaneswar on Friday evening, East Coast Railway said on Friday.
In the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown, many migrant labourers are stranded in different parts of the country.
As these people wish to return to their native places, the Odisha Government has planned to bring them back to the state.
The East Coast Railway in a release said that following the guideline issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has decided to run “Shramik Special” trains to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to the lockdown.
The special trains will run from point to point on the request of both the concerned State governments.
The passengers would be screened by the sending States and only asymptomatic passengers would be allowed to travel.
Social distancing precautions and measures would be undertaken by all passengers during travel.
The release also stated that meal arrangements for travelling passengers would be made by the sending State government, while the railways would provide one meal and drinking water during longer journeys.
