Bhubaneswar, Dec 15 (LocalWire) Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi has alerted all district collectors over an impending cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours.
In a letter to all collectors, Sethi said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that a depression over south-east Bay of Bengal intensified on Friday.
“It is likely to further intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours and into severe cyclonic storm in subsequent 36 hours,” Sethi said.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to occur at few places over Odisha districts on Saturday, in few coastal districts on Sunday and will continue till Monday.
Sethi said isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts on Sunday.
“Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea of south-west and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal
The weather department has already advised fishermen not to venture into southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal on Saturday (Dec 15) and westcentral and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal on Sunday (Dec 16).
“Steps may please be taken to disseminate the information among farmers with advice to take necessary measures to protect their crops. Advice for fishermen to be strictly followed,” Sethi directed the collectors.
