Bhubaneswar, January 9 (Localwire): A High-level Clearance Committee chaired by state chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday approved three big projects worth Rs 17,833 crore.
The projects are expected to create 6,539 new jobs in Odisha.
Informing this, the state Energy and Industries Minister Divya Shankar Mishra said that the Government of Odisha has approved proposals in the core sectors including the Rs 8,000-crore project of Hindalco one of Asia’s biggest producers of primary aluminium metals of the Aditya Birla Group for setting up a 2 MTPA Alumina Refinery Unit to be installed at the foothills of Kodingamali Bauxite mine and the mine is currently under OMC’s leasehold.
Hindalco needs six million tones of bauxite for its proposed refinery unit. Company has urged the state government to provide bauxite through long term linkage from OMC mines.
The proposed project will go on stream in 4-5 years. Hindalco has 1700 acres of land for this project and the rest 500-600 acres of land will be provided by the state government. It will generate over 4250 new jobs.
The commission has also granted permission to NTPC Ltd for expansion of its thermal power plant capacity of Talcher Thermal Power Station with the capacity of Stage III Talcher Thermal Power Station (2×660 MW) with an additional investment of Rs 7,698.46 crore.
It also gave the environmental clearance for expansion of the integrated facility of Rungta Mines Steel Plant from 0.27 MTPA to 0.9 MTPA with the investment of Rs 2,135 crore providing additional employment of 2289 people.
The chief minister also took stock of the follow up of investment intents received during Make in Odisha 2016 and Make in Odisha 2018.
During the meeting Industries principal secretary Hemant Sharma presented the roadmap for MIO 2020, including the outreach activities, development of industrial infrastructure, and policy interventions.
