Bhubaneswar, Dec 18 (LocalWire): Odisha government has roped in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar to conduct a safety audit of the accident-prone highways of the state to reduce the rate of fatalities.
The premier technical institute will submit the suggestive measures to curb road accidents within six months, transport Commissioner G. Srinivasan told reporters here today.
As many as 1452 black spots where accidents are taking place frequently have been identified.
Corrective measures like installing retro-reflective tapes at meridian intersections with solar-powered blinkers have been initiated. Highway patrolling is also being beefed up at these vulnerable zones, he said.
