Bhubaneswar, July 30 (LocalWire): With a dearth in bullet-resistant vehicles, Odisha police are in a quandary to provide security cover to VVIPs and Z-category bigwigs.
The state police are currently in possession of a fleet of nine bulletproof vehicles but majority of them are no more roadworthy, much to the chagrin of the intelligence wing of the state police.
Special Director General of Police (intelligence) recently proposed to the state police chief to replace obsolete and outdated bulletproof vehicles and replace them with new bullet-resistant ones.
‘More and more Z-category dignitaries are visiting the state. Only a couple of bullet-resistant SUVs are currently at our disposal.
Seven bullet-proof ambassador cars have turned defunct and are no more roadworthy,’ Special DGP (intelligence) wrote to the DGP and added in the letter that due to extensive use, the bulletproof SUVs are also frequently breaking down.
Due to shortage of bullet-proof vehicles, the intelligence wing is facing difficulties in providing security cover for more than one VVIP at a time.
The state’s intelligence chief also sought induction of two Tayota Innova crystal model for the use of chief minister’s security during road journey.
