Berhampur, June 7 (LocalWire): Flight Lieutenant Sunit Mohanty was among the 13-member crew on board the AN-32 aircraft which went missing while flying from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh on 3 June.
The IAF aircraft took off from Assam’s Jorhat at 12.27 p.m. for Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang district bordering China, but lost contact with ground authorities at around 1 p.m.
‘We were informed about the missing aircraft the same day,’ said Sanjukta Mohanty, Sunit’s mother.
‘Since four days have elapsed since the missing of the aircraft, we are very worried about our son and hoping he will return soon,’ she added.
‘As an Odia officer is in the missing aircraft, the state government should mount pressure on the Centre to intensify the search operation,’ she said from Delhi, where the family is now settled.
Originally from Baliapalli village, near Kabisurya Nagara, 28-year-old Sunit is unmarried. His father, Surendra Kumar Mohanty, a retired group captain has reached the search site.
