Bhubaneswar, Nov 19 (LocalWire): An estimated 40% of the total grants released by the Centre to state agencies to execute the smart city project at Roukela is lying idle for almost four years.
When ‘Central neglect’ has become the favourite catchphrase by the state government, the non-utilization of smart city project Central grants has kicked up a row.
Flaying the state government for haphazardly utilizing the Central grant for infrastructure refurbishment of Rourkela city, Sundargarh MP and former Union minister, Jual Oram, sought the Centre’s intervention in the matter.
Rourkela has been tagged as smart city by the Centre. In 2015-16 and 2016-17, Rs 37.06 crore was allocated for the project but the state agencies managed to utilize Rs 22.23 crore out of it. Ironically, the sum spent so far is entirely towards the establishment and staff salary disbursal, Oram said.
‘I demand the intervention of the Centre and direct the state government to expedite the development of the projects so that Rourkela becomes a full-fledged and beautiful smart city,’ he concluded.
