Bhubaneswar, Mar 17 (Local Wire): The state government has now decided to disburse rations under the Public Distribution System (PDS) and old age pensions in advance for the next few months in one go to tackle the issue of any untoward incidents.
State Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain on Tuesday informed the media on the issue.
He said, “Currently there is no shortage of food supplies in the market.
We are planning to disburse rations under PDS in one go for next three months.
We will be giving more clarity and details on the issue on Wednesday. We are working to make this happen,”
According to sources in the department the department has now been mulling to distribute rice, wheat, kerosene through the PDS stores across the state to the entitled beneficiaries.
It is likely that the rations will be distributed from April 1 to April 15.
On the other hand the state Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department which is handling the pensions for old aged people have decided to disburse old age pensions under the state’s Madhu Babu Pension Yojana and Centre’s National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) in one go in advance for next four months.
All the developments have come to light keeping in mind the looming threat of Coronavirus in the state and its likely impact on different sectors of economy and on the systems which can affect the disbursement of goods and services given by the government.
