Bhubaneswar, Nov 18 (LocalWire): Odisha continues to witness rise in rape cases with 4,367 cases registered from January 2018 till 30 September, 2019 where 55% of the victims were minors.
The number of rape cases registered in 2017 was 2,221 against 2,144 cases in the previous year.
In 2018, it climbed to 2502 cases. This year till 30 September, 1865 rape cases have been registered, Home Minister Dibya Shakar Mishra told the Assembly in a written reply.
Of the rape cases registered till September, 965 cases pertained to sexual assault of minor girls.
In 2018 1430 cases of minor girls’being raped had been reported.
Of the 1865 rape cases registered this year till September, six women were raped and then murdered, the ministerial reply said.
In a period spanning from 2015 to September 2019, as many as 11,018 rape cases were registered in the state. Of them, 6,085 (55%) were minors.
