Balasore, December 23 (LocalWire): Students from schools, colleges, and other educational institutions joined hands with the district administration to launch a massive cleanliness drive at the Chandipur beach on Sunday.
The drive that was supported by the hotel association was also joined by the school teachers, intelligentsia, local elected representatives, and different clubs that saw the volunteers take up cleaning of the area spread across 5 km.
The cleaning was necessitated as the picnic season has set in and tourists from different parts throng the place.
The administration also expects more inflow of international tourists since the annual beach festival is scheduled to be held in the second week of January next year.
The enthusiastic students were cheered up and encouraged by the officials of the district administration and hoteliers.
Speaking on the occasion district collector K Sudharshan Chakravarthy said that Chandipur beach was not only famous in India also worldwide because of its unique features.
“It is the duty and responsibilities of each one of us to maintain not only the beaches but also the environment and keep it clean and green,” Chakravarthy said.
According to reports, as many as 1,070 students of 14 schools and colleges took part in the cleanliness programme.
The students were divided into 20 groups and they moved along the beach to collect garbage and other wastes.
The collected materials were removed from the place with the help of tractors and JCBs.
The nature-blessed beach is unique because the tide recedes up to 5 km twice a day and is motor-able.
The superintendent of police B Jugal Kishor, ADM Sambit Nayak, PDR DRDA Ram Chandra Jena, district tourist officer Gagan Sahu, and Sports officer Purna Chandra Jena were among others who joined the initiative.
