Kendrapara, Dec 12 (LocalWire): Students of Kendrapara High School today boycotted classes and staged a protest in front of the Collector’s office in Kendrapara town. They demanded appointment of teachers and protested against the transfer of four teachers from the school.
‘The crunch in teaching staff has had an adverse impact on the quality of education and in turn on the students’ career. Our repeated requests to address the issue have fallen on deaf ears,’ said one of the students during the protest.
The students raised slogans against the alleged apathy of the officials concerned in appointing teachers in the existing vacant posts of the 156-year-old school.
‘We will continue our agitation if the officials do not fulfill our demands,’ said another student. The schoolchildren also brought to the notice of the district administration the crumbling school hostel building and rampant irregularities in the midday meal.
‘Water leaks through the roof of many rooms. Seepage marks on the wall and roof are proof enough of the bad condition. The iron rods in the ceilings are exposed and rusted. We urged the authorities to repair the building but the officials did not pay any heed to our demands,’ said a student.
Kalpana Behera, the district education officer said, ‘Many students protested against the transfer of four teachers by sitting on a dharna in front of the office of the Collector. We will soon appoint more teachers in the school.’
