Bhubaneswar, 30 Oct (LocalWire): In an attempt to check unauthorized human interference in Satkosia Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha’s Angul district, authorities have decided to put in place check gates along National Highway 57 traversing through the southern parts of the tiger reserve.
‘As the highway passes the border of STR, decision has been taken to have three more check gates to enhance surveillance and keep tab on unauthorized access into the forest and wildlife habitat,’ said Anshu Pragyan Das, Divisional Forest Officer, Mahanadi Wildlife Division.
Currently the tiger reserve has two check gates at Shitalapani and Chaimundia. All the check gates will come under CCTV camera surveillance in order to strengthen vigil of the reserve, she said.
The tiger reserve, which recently hogged spotlight for translocation of tigers from Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh, is spread across 523.61 square kilometre stretch core area and enriched with one of the best ecosystems in the country, representing a diverse floral and faunal extravaganza.
