Jajpur, Oct 15 (LocalWire): Police have arrested a 28-year-old student leader today from Jajpur district for making false promises of marriage to a 21-year-old girl.
Jitendra Pradhan is the former president of BJD’s student wing in Binjharapur block.
He was suspended from the party on 23 September after the girl filed an FIR against him.
He was produced in the district court at Jajpur and his bail plea rejected.
He has been remanded him in judicial custody said IIC of Binjharapur police station, Shiba Charan Behera.
Pradhan allegedly had a physical relationship with the girl for five years and had promised to marry her.
However, after he refused to marry, the girl filed an FIR against him but he managed to flee.
Acting on a tip off, the police arrested him from Panikoili today.
He was booked under Sections 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage), 417 (cheating), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and Section 6 of sections 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.
