Berhampur, Nov 11 (LocalWire): Mass cleanliness drive on the coastal beaches off Ganjam coast under Swachh Nirmal Tat Abhiyan, a Central government programme was launched today.
The ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEF&CC) is undertaking a mass cleanliness-cum-awareness drive in 50 identified beaches from 11th -17th November across the country in 10 states and Union Territories.
The week-long cleanliness drive-cum awareness programme is being undertaken by students of Eco-clubs and other volunteers here.
It was inaugurated by the district Collector Vijy Amruta Kulange at Gopalpur-on-Sea and Sonepur beaches.
All stockholders, including local residents and fishermen are involved in the drive to maintaining hygiene of the beaches, said the Collector.
Around 200 students from Eco clubs, NCC, local youths and 26 nearby schools will be engaged for two hours daily from 7 a.m to 9 a.m. to clean the beaches, said the coordinator of Eco clubs, Ganjam district, Shankar Narayan Bez.
The garbage will be handed over to the local urban and rural bodies for safe disposal.
The participants will also create awareness among the local people to maintain the beach clean, said district education officer (DEO) Ganjam Sanatan Panda.
ASub Collector (Berhampur) SD Bhausahed and several other officers, local people attended the drive in both the places.
