Angul, December 28 (LocalWire) A wild tusker sneaked into a village and gored to death a 55-year-old man on Saturday night in a forest-side village of Odisha’s Angul district, forest officials said
The incident occurred in at Urunda village under Rengali police station area of the district.
The male elephant had got separated from the herd and had trespassed in the village. Later it had let loose a reign of terror by trampling crop fields and damaging houses.
The animal pulled down the house of the victim Naba Sethy. The victim was trampled to death by the wild animal.
The village where tragic death was reported is close to elephants’ habitation corridor. The animals stray into the village to devour the crop field, which leads to frequent outbreak of man-elephant conflict.
The next kin of the bereaved family is being covered Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia financial aid as per rule prescribed for human death due to attack protected animals, added the forest officials.
