Baripada, Feb 14 (LocalWire): A constable from the Badasahi Police Station has been arrested after a video went viral in which he was misbehaving with the devotees at the Hingula Fair. He was produced in the Baripada SDJM court on Friday.
The constable has been identified as Gagan Bihari Naik. He served a constable at the Badasahi Police Station.
The Additional SP Abhimanyu Nayak said that as per the direction of SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas, Naik had been suspended and arrested. He remains under custody after his bail was rejected.
The video of the entire incident was recorded on a mobile phone by an unknown person on 11th February, the closing date of the four-day-long fair at the Suhagpur village under the Badashai Police Station.
The Additional SP said that the constable was deployed at the fair in order to maintain discipline. While the devotees were busy offering bhog to the Goddess Hingula, the constable defied his duty after consuming alcohol and misbehaved with the devotees at the fair ground.
The devotees were shocked to see the constable remove his shirt and scream loudly. He misbehaved not only with the devotees, but also with the other constables present on the spot.
Betnoti SDPO Lalit Patnaik assured the pubic that necessary action will be taken against the constable as per directed by the higher authorities.
Recently, a video of another police officer of Betnoti Police Station, who was suspended on 6th February by the SP, went viral in which he was misbehaving with the public. The officer was identified as Sachidananda Kishan.
He was lying on a bench near a shop in a completely drunk state. When some locals advised him to go home, he misbehaved with them.
