Malkangiri, Oct 27 (LocalWire): A gunfight happened between the police and Maoists in the Jumdang forest in Chitrakonda-Swabhiman area of the Andhra-Odisha border on Tuesday morning, the local police said.
According to sources, the combing operation was launched by SOG and DVF forces last night after receiving reports of a Maoist camp in Jumdang forest.
The police retaliated after the Naxalites opened fire on security forces.
Meanwhile, a large number of deadly weapons were seized from Mukudpalli and Gorasetu yesterday.

The elder brother, who was sold by the parents, was rescued by an Anganwadi worker, Jayanti Khara. She provided him the necessary care after learning about his situation.
The younger sibling was rescued from Siraguda village where he was engaged as a goat tender.
After knowing about the plight of the two siblings from the media, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KISS Foundation came forward to help them.
He contacted them through his representatives and assured them that they would be admitted to Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), where they would receive free education.
Following Dr. Samanta’s request, KISS Foundation will provide Rs. 2000 per month to them to meet their day-to-day expenses.

Malkangiri, Jan 21 (LocalWire) A doctor and his team in Malkangiri district received wide appreciations for saving the life of a pregnant woman by bringing her to hospital in a cot trekking about 18 miles on a narrow and slippery forest road on Monday.
Dr Radheshyam Jena and his colleagues were holding a health camp in a nearby area when they came to know about the suffering of the woman at Kodidulagundi village.
They rushed to the site.
While the woman delivered a baby boy, the other baby remained in the uterus and he could not help further, the New Indian Express newspaper reported.
Jena and team carried the woman in a cot and trekked in hilly terrain to admit her in the government hospital. The second baby had died, the mother and another newborn are stable, the papers said citing the doctors.

A batch of volunteers lends him support in his mission along with the hilly and forest-side villages.
He camps in each of the villages to operate his mobile clinic. He graciously accepts the hospitality of locals as the village becomes his temporary home.

Malkangiri, Nov 2 (LocalWire) The abhorrent superstition-bound witchcraft practice has claimed two more lives with a man and his son being hacked to death in Malkangiri district on Friday night, police said today.
Bodies of Sadan Mali (45) and his son Niladrri Mali (24) were retrieved today in a pool of blood near a pond in Maliguda village, predominantly inhabited by tribal people, under Mathili police station of the district.
The double murder was related to witchcraft practice. The two accused assailants duo have surrendered before the police and confessed to their crime, said Malkangiri Superintendent of Police, Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari.
They had eliminated the father-son duo after suspecting the victims to be practicing witchcraft which made their children fall sick, he said.
With the latest double murder, 41 witch-hunting human toll has been recorded (from January 1 to November 1) this year while the figures were 39 in 2018.
Of late, witch-hunting violence is on an upswing in the State with 15 such murders being registered since September 15.
Police are launching anti-witchcraft campaigns from time to time to curb the practice.
These sort of disconcerting incidents are occurring due to poverty, family disputes and absence of health service in some areas, blind beliefs and lack of education, he said.

Malkangiri, October 12 (LocalWire):Three persons, including two sisters, went missing after a country boat ferrying them capsized midstream in Saberi River near Niliguda village ghat under Padia police station in Malkangiri district on Friday.
According to the police, the mishap happened when the three were returning home in a boat from a relative’s house in neighbouring Chhattisgarh last evening.
They two sisters have been identified as Malika Kabasi and Dine Kabasi, daughters of Raja Kabasi of Kumbharguda village under Padia police station.
The third person is yet to be identified, the police stated.
On being informed about the incident, the police along with fire service personnel reached the spot and initiated search operation, that was still continuing.

Malkangiri, July 31 (LocalWire): The Malkanagiri district court will recruit one stenographer for its office followed by an exam and interested candidates have been advised to submit the job application before August 31.
The job has been reserved for scheduled tribe men only.
The examination will be conducted in two successive stages- an English paper in carrying 100 marks, and in part-II, 50 marks in shorthand and typewriting test, 100 marks in computer science (practical), and a personal interview carrying 35 marks.
Candidates who qualify the part-I examination shall be called for the part-II examination. The candidates appearing for the type test will have to bring their own typewriter machine.
The date of the examination has not been notified by the district court office.
The successful candidate will receive a salary of within the pay band of, Rs 25,500-81,100 for the job along with other allowances as applicable to government employees.
The examination fees for the candidates have been fixed at Rs.100 which has to be submitted by the Treasury challan.
As per the notification, the candidates appearing for the exam must be between 18 to 32 years age group. They must have completed +2 examinations from any recognized college. In additional must have a diploma in a computer along with fluency in Odia.
The candidates must have a minimum speed of 80 words in shorthand and 40 words in typewriting per minute, said the notification.

Malkangiri, July 26 (LocalWire): The anti-corruption vigilance wing of Odisha Police today caught red-handed three police officers of Malkangiri police station for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs one lakh from a complainant. They were later arrested.
The accused cops, inspector Ranjan Sahu and assistant sub inspectors Manas Swain and Sunil Kumar demanded bribe from an employee of a private engineering college to cover complaint lodged against the institute.
Harassed by the extortion tactics, the complainant informed the vigilance sleuths.
Accordingly a trap was laid and the accused police officials were caught while receiving the demanded amount in the office premises of the private engineering college.
The sleuths, who were lying in wait, caught the accused when the complainant handed over the chemical-coated currencies to them at the pre-determined spot.
The policemen have been booked under various provisions of prevention of corruption act, said vigilance division officials.
They are being remanded to judicial custody later today, they added.
