Bhubaneswar, Oct 16 (LocalWire): The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha today said that it has found out 11,956 eligible voters who have opted for postal ballot system for the two bypolls.
The office said during these bypolls, the elderly population above 80 years of age, differently able groups and COVID affected/suspected persons has been allowed to opt for the same.
“All the voters of these three categories were personally contacted by the Booth Level Officers. As reported, in Tirtol, out of 15253 such voters 3681 voters opted for postal ballot while 9677 refused, 1496 were not available despite contacting them twice,” the CEO office said.
It also added, “Similarly, in Balasore Sadar out of 8275 voters belonging to the three categories 1727 voters opted for postal ballot while 902 were not available despite contacting them twice and 3503 refused postal ballot and decided to vote at the booth on poll day,”
The CEO office said that special polling parties are being formed for all the three categories who will visit the houses of each voter who have opted for postal Ballot.
It will have a security personnel and videography team for collecting the postal Ballot Papers after 20th October.
The visit schedule will be duly intimated to all the candidates.
