Bhubaneswar, Oct 22 (LocalWire): The Met centre in Bhubaneswar has predicted heavy rainfall over the next two days due to the depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.
While the Depression will cross the West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts between Sagar Islands (WB) and Khepupara (Bangladesh) over the Sundarbans on the afternoon of 23rd October, heavy rain is expected to lash 5 Odisha districts.
A red warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore, with wind speeds of up to 50 kmph on Oct 23.
Water-logging and localized flooding, damage to standing and horticultural crops, and damage to kutcha houses has been predicted.
The closing of underpass roads in urban areas has been suggested by the authorities.
Heavy rainfall (orange warning) over the district of Puri with sustained wind speeds of 25-35 kmph is expected.
People have been advised to avoid movement as far as possible and avoid staying in vulnerable structures.
Heavy rainfall (yellow warning) has been predicted for Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast as sea conditions are expected to be rough.
