Berhampur: February 27 (LocalWire): Tata Steel has distributed merit scholarships to 134 students of the SC/ST communities from 35 schools of Rangeilunda and Chhatrapur blocks in Ganjam district to boost higher studies.
The steel giant instituted the Jyoti Award to help meritorious students from weaker sections of the society. As part of the fellowship, it distributed over Rs8.4 lakh at an event at Mandiapalli on Tuesday.
The beneficiaries included 27 college and university students, and the rest were from 7 to 12 school standards. A few top performers also received tablet computers.
District collector Vijay Amrut Kulange, who distributed the awards, urged the students to study hard. He also praised Tata Steel’s efforts to encourage students through the fellowship to pursue education.
Tata Steel SEZ MD Ashish Mathur, Tata Steel CSR head Ambika Nanda, Gopalpur unit head of Tata Steel Rockey Martin, teachers and students, among others, participated in the award function
Addressing the young achievers, Mathur said: Tata Steel will continue to provide the fellowship to promote education.
Nanda said, Tata Steel will keep engaging the students through innovative ideas to promote them.
Tata Steel supports deserving students of SC/ST communities, who want to pursue higher education, through its Jyoti Fellowship. It’s being awarded to students here for the 9th consecutive year.
