Rourkela, Jan 4 (LocalWire) A lady teacher of a government school in Sundargarh district, has accused her husband, who is also a teacher, of polygamy.
Acting on her complaint, District Project Coordinator (DPC) had directed Hemgiri Block Education Officer (BEO) for conducting an inquiry into the matter.
After the BEO found the allegation to be genuine, he recommended disciplinary action against the husband on Friday.
According to sources, Prakash Mahanandia, teacher at government-run Khapurikachar Primary School under Hemgiri block of Sundargarh, is legally married to Tangerdihi Primary School Mamata Kaliari.
The couple has a six-year-old daughter.
Sources said, Prakash again married Kanika UP School teacher Bindu Singh on May 18, 2018 by producing a false affidavit in court, without the knowledge of his wife Mamata.
When Mamata came to know about his marriage to Bindu, she met Sundargarh Collector in August and intimated him about Prakash’s second marriage.
As per the instruction of the collector at that time, DPC and DEO, Sundargarh had directed Prakash to stay away from Bindu and had also asked the second woman to give in writing not to interfere in Prakash and Mamata’s family life.
However, Mamata alleged after a few days Prakash and Bindu again got together and when she protested, her husband allegedly threatened her and drove her and her daughter out of the house.
Recently, Mamata again lodged complaint against Prakash before DPC, Sundargarh.
“He is working as a contractual teacher and his job would have become a permanent one soon. But since he has violated the law by marrying another woman without divorcing the first wife, his job will not be regularized,” said Amulya Kumar Pradhan, DPC, SSA.
“We have also issued a show cause notice to him and we will take action against him soon,” Pradhan said.
