Berhampur, Dec 23 (LocalWire): An assistant teacher from the elementary section of a government high school has been suspended by the Ganjam district administration today after she was caught selling textbooks meant for free distribution among students under Sarava Sikshya Abhiyan.
Savitri Devi of Patapur government high school was suspended after villagers caught her red-handed. She was selling 1076 textbooks and workbooks of various classes to hawkers without taking permission of the school development committee or the headmaster, the district education officer, Ganjam, Sanatan Panda said.
The villagers reported the incident to the block education officer and also demonstrated in front of the school demanding action against the teacher.
Panda asked the BEO, Sanakhemundi, to suspend her immediately after submitting an inquiry report.
‘During my inquiry, she confessed of selling the surplus books of last two to three years,’ BEO Mukunda Padhy said.
