Berhampur, September 6 (LocalWire): School teachers in Gajapati district have expressed reservation and opposed the direction of the district education officer (DEO) to send selfie after reaching the school every day through WhatsApp as a proof of their arrival in the school in time.
Gajapati DEO PK Nag has also asked the headmasters of the schools to send the photos of attendance register of the teachers through the mobile phone app. The teachers need to arrive in the schools at 9.30 am and remain at the premises till 4.30 pm.
“Since the government has stressed so much on the implantation of the 5 T (Teamwork, Transparency, Technology and Time leading to Transformation), we have asked the teachers to use the technology and to maintain transparency, punctuality, and teamwork in the school.
The selfie of the teachers is a part of the 5T,” DEO Nag said, adding that, “I don’t know why some of the teachers are opposing the order.”
Teachers in Gajapati district, however, demanded that the order be withdrawn. They also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the DEO on Wednesday.
“There are several mechanisms to ensure the presence of teachers in schools, including inspection by the block education officer (BEO), ABEO, ADEO, CRCC, etc. There is no need to get a selfie of the teachers to prove their presence in the school,” Debaraj Jena of District CT Primary Teacher Association, said.
On Tuesday, leaders of the different associations of the teachers under the banner of Gajapati District Milita Sikshyak Sangh in a meeting held at Paralakhemundi also decided to launch a district-wide agitation demanding the withdrawal of the order.
Several schools would face difficulty in sending the selfie of teachers due to the poor mobile phone network connectivity in the district, said a teacher.
The teachers have also opposed the instruction of the DEO to arrive at the school at 9.30 am. The DEO, however, said it was the government order for the last three years.
