Balangir, December 23 (LocalWire): A team of 17 young mountaineers from Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Sambalpur will be attempting to scale Mount Sandakphu, a 12,024 feet high mountain in Singalilia range of Darjeeling.
The team led by Animesh Sahu of Balangir was flagged by MLA Narsingha Mishra on Sunday.
“We would trek the mountain from 26 December and start to descend from 4 January 2020. We are scheduled to observe the new-year-day at the top of the mountain,” Sahu said.
“Earlier, I have climbed the mountain and hence I decided to take an expedition to the mountain. As we have carried out rigorous physical training here, we would be able to climb it up successfully,” he stated.
The mountaineering team also comprises of Dr. Satyapira Pradhan, a Guinness record holder in kicking up punch in one minute.
While flagging off the team, Mishra appreciated the enthusiasm and spirit shown by young mountaineers and wished them success.
