Berhampur, June 15 (LocalWire): Two teenage sisters allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Gudiali under Ganjam district’s Kabisurya Nagara police station limits, about 60-km from here on Thursday night.
The two girls identified as 16-year old Deepa and 12-year old Lija are daughters of one Padmanav Bhuyan, who works as a daily labour in Surat.
While Deepa succumbed after being admitted at the local MKCG Medical College and Hospital, the younger sister Lija died on way to the hospital, Kabisurya Nagara Police Station inspector in charge Tapan Kumar Pati said.
While the police have not recovered any poisonous substances from their home, the doctors conducting post-mortem has indicated that death might be caused due to the consumption of poison.
The duo are believed to have consumed poison outside their house and one of them reportedly informed about this to their father when they started vomiting in the house, the police said adding that they were immediately rushed to the hospital.
Police suspected the sisters might be taken the extreme steps due to the family dispute.
Police said the mother of the deceased had died three years ago and the father had a two-year-old son from his second marriage.
“We have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation,” the police said adding that they would also interrogate their step-mother to find out whether she had a role in their suicide.
