Berhampur, May 15 (LocalWire): Tension prevailed in Khaira village under Ganjam district’s Jarada police station today after a teenager died following a clash between two groups in the village last night.
The deceased was identified as Raja Pradhan, a Class X student of the same village.
He was allegedly lynched by the rival group during the clash. Seven other persons, belonging to both groups, sustained injuries.
Police deployed a platoon to bring the situation under control although the cause of the clash was still to be ascertained, said SP (Berhampur) Pinak Mishra. ‘We are investigating all angles, including political enmity,’ he added.
Villagers said the groups belonged to rival BJD and BJP.
The father of the deceased belonged to the BJP while the village falls under the Chikiti Assembly constituency.
SDPO Chikiti, Surendra Nath Murmu, said the boy was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here but was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack since his condition was serious. He died on the way, Murmu said.
The rival groups were squabbling since the election on 11 April.
The villagers, however, held a meeting and tried to solve the problem on Tuesday morning since they were looking forward to a festival on Friday.
But the groups clashed in the evening with bamboos and sharp weapons. No arrests have been made as the male members fled the village, police said.
