Berhampur, July 31 (LocalWire): Tension was palpable in Tata Steel’s Industrial Park near Chamakhandi as police arrested 78 people late last evening for forcefully entering the Ferro Chrome plant on 27 June, damaging properties to the tune of Rs 9 crore and also attacking the company’s employees.
Police said the agitators were working with the TS Alloys Limited, a 100 percent subsidiary of Tata Steel that operates the Ferro Chrome plant.
They, however, demanded permanent job in Tata Steel.
On Tuesday, when police tried to convince the agitators, they allegedly assaulted the police too, said sub divisional police officer, Chhatrapur, Utkal Keshari Das.
At least four cases were registered against them, he said.
The agitators have also lodged a case against the police.
‘We are investigating it’ said police.
The parents of the arrested people have threatened to demonstrate in front of the Ferro Chrome Plant gate and not allow any employee to go inside the plant.
‘We are keeping guard and one platoon has been deployed inside,’ said the SDPO.
