Rourkela, Nov 24 (LopcalWire): A tipper driver was killed at MCL’s Kulda coal mines in Sundargarh after a huge rock shot off from blasting and fell on his cabin, said police on Saturday.
Tension prevailed on the spot after the incident with the police registering a case against two mine officials and the team involved in the blast.
According to sources, the incident occurred at 2.15 pm on Friday.
According to police, the tipper driver had no idea that blasting was being carried out in MCL’s Kulda mines under Hemgiri police station.
He reportedly entered into the mining area to lift coal but suddenly a huge piece of rock blew in the air under the impact of the explosion and fell on the cabin of tipper killing him inside.
He was identified as Asraf Ansari (22), a resident of Deoghar of Jharkhand state.
Tension prevailed on the spot with contract employees not allowing MCL authorities to take the body to hospital till compensation to the family of the deceased was ensured.
Later in the evening, Asraf’s brother-in-law lodged an FIR against Project Officer and Safety Officer of MCL in Hemgiri police station alleging negligence and not raising any alarm before or during the blast.
“We have registered case and investigating the case,” said Sradhanjali Subhudi, inspector-in-charge, Hemgiri police station of Sundargarh.
“An inquiry would be conducted by a team of senior officials, under the leadership of General Manager (Safety), MCL,” said D. Mehera, Public Relations Officer, MCL.
