Bolangir, August 27 (LocalWire): It is common to find people in the rural area visiting the Primary Health Center (PHC) to get treatment for their ailments.
Often the patients and those accompanying them do not even find a good place to sit while waiting, not to talk about quality medical facilities.
But 27 km from Balangir in Loisingha tehesil, the Badimunda PHC now boasts of various facilities – from a large waiting hall that has an audio-visual system, fan and CCTV surveillance to a token-based patient management system that enables that ensures people are treated serially based on their arrival.
It also has a center to impart Yoga training to people on Sunday.
Established way back in 1988, the scene at this health center underwent a sea change after the posting of Dr Sekhar Lal Pradhan in 2010.
“We have a waiting hall which is fitted with an audio-visual system that we use to share information related to causes of disease and other motivational videos.
Moreover, a token system has been introduced to streamline patients.
We also have a Yoga center which imparts Yoga training to people on every Sunday,” Dr Pradhan said.
And the results are there to be seen, with the total number of patients in the Outpatient Department jumping from 6,713 in 2013 to 19,857 in 2018-19, including handling a record 199 patients in a day.
The center functions from 7 am to evening 6 pm most of the days in the week.
Local people have also extended their cooperation in keeping the hospital clean and running it smoothly.
“The center serves ten gram-panchayats of Balangir and Bargarh district and we are demanding this to be upgraded to Community Health Centre (CHC) so that people in the area can get better healthcare services,” former Zilla Parishad member Vijaya Kumar Tripathy said.
For its excellent health care services, the Badimunda PHC was awarded Kaya Kalpa Award by the district administration in 2018.
The state Health and Family Welfare Department also appreciated the effort of Dr Pradhan.
The department has shared the achievements of the center on its Facebook page.
“The Badimunda PHC is setting a benchmark in innovative management of OPD patients. Credit goes to Dr Pradhan and his team. KayaKalp money is being put to good use and the OPD service has gone up high,” the post on Facebook stated.
