Berhampur, April 30 (Localwire): The month-long biannual Thakurani Yatra, which celebrates Goddess Thakurani’s visit to her father’s house on Desibehera Street here, has come to the end after the head priest declared that the deity has returned to her abode on Tuesday morning.
On Monday midnight, devotees who had come in large numbers to pay obeisance to the deity on the last day had taken out a huge procession, called the Ghata Yatra, to mark her return journey.
A tight security arrangement was put in place to prevent any untoward incident during the final lap of the journey. Around 15 platoons of security forces were deployed in the town for crowd management.
During the festival from March 29 to April 29, people dressed in different mythological characters and animals participated in processions to celebrate the goddess’ homecoming.
The town was decorated with colourful lights and flowers as thousands of devotees poured in from different corners of the state to celebrate the festival.
