Bhubaneswar, June 28 (LocalWire): The ruling party candidates, Amar Patnaik and Sasmit Patra and BJP’s Ashwini Vaishnav, were elected unopposed to three Rajya Sabha seats in the by-polls today.
BJD nominees were elected to the Upper House while the BJP’s nominee was elected with the support of the ruling party.
The Assembly Secretary Bishnuprasad Mishra, who is also the returning officer for the Rajya Sabha by-polls, declared the three candidates as winners today.
BJD’s IT cell chairman and spokesperson, Amar Patnaik and spokesperson Sasmit Patra will represent Odisha in place of Achyutananda Samanta and Pratap Deb respectively.
Similarly, Ashwini Vaishnav will represent the state in place of Soumya Ranjan Patnaik.
Sasmit was elected for three years term while Amar and Aswini were elected for five years term to the Rajya Sabha.
