Berhampur, Dec 15 (LocalWire) The District and Sessions Judge Court, Ganjam on Saturday sentenced three people to life imprisonment for poisoning a man to death at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and looting his cash and mobile, about four years ago.
District and sessions judge Bibhu Prasad Routray convicted Satryananda Parida of Babu Sahi, Bhaskar Khatua of Rahama in Jagatsinghpur and Satosh Satapathy of Naradiha under Chamakahandi police station limits in Ganjam district.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 17,000 on each one of them, failing to provide which, they will undergo more two years rigorous imprisonment, said public prosecutor Ajit Kumar Patnaik.
The court pronounced its order after examining 28 witnesses in the case.
Sources said deceased Chandra Sekhar Panda (40) of Golapada village was sleeping near the indoor hall of the medical college and hospital on Sept 12, 2014 night, as his son was admitted in the hospital.
During this period, the three accused made friends with him and offered him tea and biscuit laced with drugs to him.
After consuming the biscuit, he lost consciousness and was looted of Rs, 5,000 and his mobile.
Next morning his wife Banita Panda found him in a serious condition. He died at the hospital while undergoing treatment.
