Jagatsinghpur, September 6 (LocalWire): Three persons were injured in a clash between two groups during the immersion of Ganesh idol on Thursday night at Bisunpur village under Tirtol police limits here.
Sources said that Bisnupur village under Tirtol police limit which has been identified as tense area due to frequent violence and clash between the two rival community groups of people.
According to reports, while members of a local youth club had taken out a procession for the immersion of Ganesh idol, a group of youths from a particular minority community tried to disrupt and created hindrance to the procession leading heated exchange between the two groups.
The youths after completing the immersion process later clashed with the minority group leading to major tension between the two communities.
Reports point out that the minority community youths attacked the other groups with iron rods in which three youths Susant Mallick, Rakesh Mallick, and Ratanakar Mallick were seriously injured.
The injured youths were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and are in critical condition. Over youths managed to escape from the brutal attack by swimming through the Mahanadi River.
Meanwhile, tension has gripped the Bisunpur village after the incidence.
Locals point out that antisocial activity by youths from a particular minority group, including incidents of creating hindrances during immersion and other such programmes in the locality, has worsened the law and order situation and people are living in panic, under the terror of these minority groups.
According to Tirtol police station inspector-in-charge Krushan Prasad Mishra, “The police have been on the strict vigil and the injured persons have lodged FIR against eight accused. The police have registered a case against them but no one has so far been arrested.”
He also pointed out that police forces have been deployed in the village to avert any tension and untoward situation.
