Bhubaneswar, March 24 (LocalWire): Police on Saturday arrested three more people in connection with a leopard skin seizure case, more than a week after it opened a probe into the illegal animal body parts trade.
The arrested persons were identified as Narendra Ping, Manful Pradhan and Akhaya Bhoi. All of them were produced before the SDJM court in Kuchinda.
According to police, the accused were involved in the illegal animal body parts trade.
On March 15, the special task force of the police had arrested seven people and seized four leopard skins from their possession in the Sambalpur area, which is close to a forest belt.
Afterwards, it launched a detailed investigation into whether the body parts were brought from outside Odisha, or belonged to poached animals in the state.
So far, 10 people have been arrested in connection with the case.
After the skin haul last week, principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) Ajay Kumar Mohapatra had directed the regional chief conservator of forests in Sambalpur to start a wider probe into the incident.
Further investigations are on.
