Berhampur, Dec 5 (LocalWire) Authorities of government-run Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC) here on Wednesday debarred at least three students from entry for their alleged indiscipline.
Rajiv Pradhan, Sujeet Kumar Gouda and Pratyush Kumar Moharana – all second year and third semester students – have been debarred from the campus till further order, said college principal RK Swain.
The trio has been debarred from participating in any college activities, including attending classes following the decision of the discipline committee of the college.
Along with some outsiders, the three youth allegedly assaulted two fellow students on Tuesday night at a rented house at Sidhartha Nagara, after forcibly taking them there from their hostel at Baikuntha Nagar second line.
They also allegedly threatened the two boys and demanded Rs 10,000 cash from each of them, said sources, adding, the exact reason behind the incident is not known.
“It might be a mischief,” said a faculty member of the college.
Swain, however, ruled out possibility of ragging in the hostel.
“The victim and accused are students of same batch, only different streams,” said principal.
Meanwhile, the tension prevailed on the campus with several students, mostly hostel inmates, staging a dharana in front of the college demanding action against the trio and also to provide security to them.
The Gopalpur police has rushed near the collage.
“We are watching the situation. So far, no untoward incident has been reported,” said Gopalpur police inspector-in-charge Sushant Kumar Sahu.
